Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Karsten Warholm Star At Oslo Diamond League
The biggest winners of the Oslo Diamond League
This edition of the CITIUS MAG Newsletter is coming at you from Knoxville, Tennessee!
My name is Jasmine Fehr, and I recently joined the CITIUS MAG team as an associate editor – which means helping manage the CITIUS website, social channels, newsletters and creating the occasional spreadsheet! Although I’m Canadian, I competed for the University of Tennessee track and field team where I graduated with my Master’s degree last month. Up until my final year of college, I always believed I was a 1500m specialist – until I gave the 5,000m a try this year! Earlier this spring, I set the indoor 5,000m record for Tennessee with a time of 15:38 and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship in the process.
My next goal? Pacing Chris to a sub-5 mile!
Now onto CITIUS news…
We are in the heart of the track and field season with Diamond Leagues and the European circuit hosting meets almost daily.
Here’s the best of CITIUS MAG from this past week:
Oslo Diamond League Delivers
– Olympic 1500m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen continued winning with a 3:27.95 victory at the Oslo Diamond League to become the sixth-fastest man in history.
– Yared Nuguse finished third in the Oslo Diamond League 1500m with a time of 3:29.02 to break the American record.
– Cory McGee finished second in 4:18.11 and Nikki Hiltz took fourth in 4:18.38 to move into No. 3 and No. 4 on the U.S. all-time outdoor mile list.
We’re Back At New Balance Nationals Outdoor
We’re proud to partner with New Balance again to bring you wall-to-wall coverage of New Balance Nationals. It’s always nice to get to know the best high school athletes in the country before they go on to become the stars of tomorrow. We’ll be sharing interviews and updates on social media all weekend long. We’ll also be sitting down with some athletes for race breakdowns.
New Balance is also broadcasting the meet for FREE on their YouTube channel. You can tune in to watch some free track on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our own Dana Giordano and Jasmine Todd will be on the broadcast throughout the weekend.
Other Content From The Past Week
– On Memorial Day Weekend, Chris Chavez and Mac Fleet paid a visit to Montverde Academy in Clermont, Florida to see coach Gerald Phiri and Adaejah Hodge training for New Balance Nationals Outdoor. Back in March, Hodge shook the track and field world when she won the New Balance Nationals Indoor 200m title in 22.33 seconds. The performance broke the previous record of 22.97, which stood since 2007. Hodge also qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary later this summer, where she will represent the British Virgin Islands. Get a look at how one of the best teenagers in the world trains. We also published a full interview with Hodge and Phiri on The CITIUS MAG Podcast.
– Last weekend’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen interview by David McCarthy following the two-mile world record has widely been shared as the best interview conducted with the 1500m Olympic champion. A day later, David followed it up by interviewing Gjert Ingebrigtsen at the On Track Nights: Paris meet since he was there coaching fellow Norweigian star Narve Gilje Nordås. We transcribed Gjert’s interview, if you prefer to read it.
– Join Chris Chavez and Keira D’Amato for an easy run in Central Park. In the “conversational pace” interview, D’Amato shares that she will be running the World Athletics Championships Marathon in Budapest in August.
For Your Weekend Listening:
We’ve had a few episodes sharing the stories of some of CITIUS MAG’s contributors including Katelyn Hutchison and David McCarthy. We also recorded an episode where we give a bit of the behind-the-scenes workings of how CITIUS MAG has been doing as a company, what exciting sponsorships and partnerships we have on the horizon + more.
On Out of The Blocks, Jasmine Todd and Katelyn Hutchison recapped all of the action at the NCAA Championships.
