Olli Hoare vs. Cole Hocker At Millrose Games; Deepest Boston Marathon Ever + Contract News

The 2023 indoor track and field season is already setting up to be an epic one.

After looking at last year’s podcast metrics, we noticed that people really seem to enjoy episodes where we’re recapping results and just talking about the latest news. We’re diehard fans and totally understand how hard it can be to stay on top of things. We’re committing to do a weekly podcast in addition to our interview shows, where we unpack the biggest stories within the sport with our own commentary and thoughts.

On this week's show, it's silly season in the track and field world with athletes switching teams and signing new contracts. The Boston Marathon unveiled its deepest fields maybe ever. The Millrose Games Wanamaker Mile and men's 800 fields were released. World Athletics has posted the schedule for all athletics action at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Here’s what you need to know:

Millrose Games Wanamaker Mile: Olli Hoare is back to defend his Wanamaker mile title after setting the indoor Australian mile record with last year's 3:50.83 victory. His biggest challengers this year include Cole Hocker, Mario Garcia Romo, Yared Nuguse, Johnny Gregorek, Sam Tanner, Sam Prakel, Neil Gourley + more.

Millrose Games Men's 800m: Bryce Hoppel returns after last year's victory but will be up against Clayton Murphy, Noah Kibet and Cade Flatt.

World Athletics' 2024 Olympic schedule: Track and field at the Games will be held from Aug. 1 to 11. All finals will be contested in the evening sessions. All road events will be contested on four different mornings. The doubles possible are: 100/200; 800/1500; 1500/5000; 5000/10,000; LJ/TJ.

What I’m Watching This Weekend: We’ll see if Emily Sisson lowers her own 67:11 American record in the half marathon on Sunday in Houston. She’ll be up against Ethiopian stars Hiwot Gebrekidan (66:47 PR) and Tirunesh Dibaba (66:50). Jenny Simpson and Vanessa Fraser will be making their 13.1 debuts. Don’t sleep on South Africa’s Dom Scott, who boasts a 67:32 personal best and national record. On the men’s side, Leul Gebresilase Aleme (59:18), Mohamed El Aaraby (59:44) and Shura Kitata (59:47) are the three men who have broken 60 minutes but Edward Cheserek (60:13) and Conner Mantz (60:55) are knocking on the door.

The race will be broadcast on ABC13 from 7 a.m.-10 a.m CT.

Let us know what you think of the new show! We’re always open to segment ideas, suggestions and feedback!
